I generally don’t ask you all to do a lot, but this is one of those circumstances where I’d like your help.

Michelle over at Cleveland Foodie has asked me to help her getting the word out about an organization which she does a lot of work for: MVK, Most Valuable Kids.

Most Valuable Kids provides underserved kids in the Cleveland area something a lot of us take for granted: unused event tickets. If you’ve got tickets to an Indians or Cavs game, Disney on Ice or even the circus, but aren’t going to be able to use them, you can donate the tickets to Most Valuable Kids. MVK will then find a kid in the Cleveland area who would really appreciate attending the event.

Pretty sweet organization if you ask me. So go check out their website and the next time you’ve got some tickets you can’t use, think about Most Valuable Kids.

PR people generally suck at contacting bloggers. Here is a list of tips on how to contact a food blogger properly.

Running a food blog is pretty fun, except for one thing, PR people. Like everywhere else in the world, someone’s always got something to sell and they’d all love to use this site to do it. I get about 5 solicitations a week from PR people and if there is one thing I have learned in my years of running this site, it is that most PR people need some help in trying to pitch a food blog. So here it goes:

How to Contact a Food Blogger

1. Do not tell me how much you love my site. This one pisses me off more than any other. About 95% of the emails I get from PR people start off like this: “Hey, my name is X and I love your site! I especially like your post on (insert post topic from 3 days ago), I do that all the time too!”

Guess what? If as many people from PR firms that told me that they read this site actually did, I be making a ton of money and I’d probably have a spot on Oprah talking to her about my weight problem.

Be straight up and tell me you found my site while doing a search for food blogs, I’ll have a lot more respect for you.

2. If your product is not related to food, don’t bother. This website is about food, not animals, not sports and certainly not cars. If you can’t find some way to tie your product to making my belly full, you probably need to do another Google search.

3. Be brief. I won’t recognize your name so the chances of me deleting your email are good. The faster I can read it, the better. So spare me the history of the company you’re pimping, the amazing things your product can do and all the locations near me where I can buy it. Get to the point.

4. Tell me who you really are. Don’t hide who you are. It’s lame and I can find out who you are in about 10 seconds.

5. Tell me what you want me to do. If I have to respond to your email to find out what exactly it is you’re looking for me to do, chances are I won’t bother. Be upfront and tell me exactly what you’re looking for.

6. Tell me why it’s worth my time. Am I helping a good cause? Are you going to send me some samples? My free time is limited and most of my writing schedule is filled up for the next few weeks, why should I fit you in?

7. Be polite. But not too polite. I know we’re not friends, but that’s no reason to be rude. At the same time, too many compliments and superlatives make me think you’re a fiduciary. You don’t want to be a fiduciary.

Eatingcleveland is now on Twitter. Check out this post and follow me on Twitter.

I had been of the opinion for some time that Twitter was merely created to consume the free-time of the mentally handicapped (a.k.a. teenagers). While I’m sure it certainly has reduced teenage pregnancy across the world, I am also beginning to think that Twitter may have some other value. This is especially true for someone with a blog, a full-time job and a newborn baby.

As a result I’ve created an Eatingcleveland Twitter account and I’d love for those of you that read the site follow me on Twitter. I’d also like to hear from those of you that have Twitter accounts as I’m always interested in finding new people to follow.

It won’t only be about food, I’ll certainly mix in a few other tasty tidbits, but I can guarantee you that it will be entertaining.

I’ve also added some Twitterific items to the site. There is now a short Twitter history on the left sidebar and you can now easily tweet any post with the “Tweet This” button at the bottom of each post.

I’m going to be down in the ATL for New Years, but no, there will be no rollerskating.

Thank you all for a great year, it has been our best yet. We’re looking forward to doing a lot more next year, but you’ve got to be around to enjoy it. So be safe out there tonight, don’t end up like that broad at the top of the post. Remember, it’s hard to get vomited foie gras out of a white shirt.

Cleveland Magazine readers voted Eatingcleveland.com as the #1 Blog in Cleveland, freaking awesome!

Boy, the things you find out in a gynecologist’s waiting room. As I waited with my wife for one of her last visits before the baby comes, I paged through this month’s copy of Cleveland Magazine.

This month they are highlighting the best that Cleveland has to offer and to my surprise (probably to everyone else’s as well) this site was voted by the readers of Cleveland magazine as the Best Blog in Cleveland.

Totally freakin’ rad.

I didn’t even know I was nominated.

This is probably a good time to thank everyone that reads this site on a regular basis and to those that subscribe. The site, in its few years of existence, has grown to a size I never could have expected with readership over three times what it was last year.

I have a lot of fun putting this site together and I know Stacy does too, I’m glad our friends and neighbors enjoy reading about our food filled lives. Ok, so mine’s a little more food filled than hers. We have so much more planned for the site and we can’t wait to let you all experience it.
