I took my wife out to Melt for her birthday last week and I was excited to see the remodel.  It had been far too long since I’d been there.  We were greeted at the door by some big tool on the phone talking to his friend about how they were gonna “smoke a fat blunt” if he didn’t get his tattoo the next day.  He proceeded to walk in and have a seat at a table with his parents who must be so proud.

The remodel is very nice and although it opened up a lot of space for waiting there are only a handful of new tables.  My wife seems to think that the remodel has taken away a bit of the charm, that having to wait with little or no room really added to the ambiance.  I think she must have been “smoking a fat blunt” with junior because the hour we waited for our table was a pleasure in the new waiting area.

That being said, I’m beginning to think that the wait itself is really the draw at Melt.  Or should I say that the wait for a table only makes the food that much more enjoyable.  It’s like you have to work hard for it, so you cherish it more.  It’s like a distant prize you have your eye on, but is just out of reach.  You tricky bastards!  I figured you out!

As always the food was great.  I had a Melt Muffaletta that was filled with prosciutto, Italian ham, salami, pepperoni, a black olive slather, an olive salad and provolone cheese.  I was all over that thing.  It was like being reunited with an old friend.  I had about half of it down the front of me, but I didn’t care.  As I get older those things are less important to me.
