white house cook book

I found this little gem on Google Books and I couldn’t pass up sharing it with you.  Printed in 1890, this book provides the homemaker with every recipe they may need to run a proper home.  And not just in the kitchen.

I love the subtitle: Cooking, toilet and household recipes. Ummm.  Toilet recipes? That’s a way to sell a book.  Unfortunately, the word toilet doesn’t appear again in the book so I won’t be able to share with you any of those delicious toilet recipes.

The book does have a lot of interesting recipes from the turn of the century, I’m not quite sure that you could even find half of the ingredients they call for, but it might be fun trying.

As an added bonus, the book offers some remedy’s for dealing with the sick which come backed with years of wisdom and know-how.  Like this one for relieving the symptoms of  asthma: Text not available
GlaxoSmithKline take that!  Looks like your little Advair disk just got outplayed by a muskrat!

Ladies Don’t Read this Part: Hey fellas.  Did you forget to get your wife something for Valentine’s Day?  Don’t worry.  Go fill up your printer with paper (pink or red would be nice) and print out this book for the little lady’s gift.  She’ll won’t be able to thank you enough, if you know what I mean.  And I think you do.
