Cleveland Sushi has suddenly become the topic de jour of my inbox. Everyone wants to know where you can get good sushi in Cleveland.
Personally, I’m of the opinion that our beautiful little city is a bit too far away from any salt water to be looking for sushi, but there are a number of people willing to live on the edge.
My little sis spends a lot of time at Sushi Rock, but is the the best place to get sushi in Cleveland? Let me know in the comments.

Pacific East at Coventry. We’ve tried it all, and this really, really is the best. Authentic, fresh and fantastic!

The best sushi in Cleveland without a shadow of a doubt is Shinano, they used to be on Wilson Mills they closed and are opening soon on Mile’s.
Sushi Rock is trendy garbage, its a place for people who don’t really like Sushi to go and eat it.
A close second is Otani in Golden Gate in Mayfield.

In all seriousness, fresh salmon and tuna is not all that difficult to get here. I bet your Hopkins gets daily flights of the fare for the local eateries.
I perfer mostly tuna or salmon in my sushi… not a huge fan of the eel, but I’ll eat it if we all order it at the bar.
I only eat sushi when our of town in LA or NYC… and would rarely eat it for dinner. It’s a great lunch in my opinion.

Pacific East at Eton is great. Akira in Solon also has good sushi.
I agree Shinano was very good and I’m glad to see from another post that they are reopening.
Sushi Rock downtown and in Beachwood is fair.

PACIFIC EAST IS FAR AND AWAY THE BEST IN THE CITY, MAYBE THE MIDWEST. SUSHI ROCK IS ABSOLUTE GARBAGE…I CAN’T EVEN EAT IT.

Pacific East in Coventry is the best sushi place I have eaten in Cleveland, but then I have only tried sushi places on the East Side.

I second Ginza! Not as flashy or trendy as some of the others, but if you are looking for great sushi this is the place to go!

Sushi on the Roll in Akron has by far the BEST sushi.. most people don’t even know about this place yet and we have been there every week it has been open.
The owners Ken Oppenheimer and Jon Roller have an awesome concept. The company is growing and we are glad to be customers!

Whoever said “Thai Charm” on Broadview is the best is sorely mistaken first off the name of the place is “Charm Thai”
Secondly this is a Thai restaurant that does sushi secondarily at select times. In addition to that I must add that last year I got my worst case of food poisoning ever from some Calamari after eating there last year.
On that same day I ordered a glass of sake and the girl brought out a 35 dollar bottle and tried to play it off to me after opening it before she brought it out.
This place is in a shopping center next do a Dunkin Doughnuts as far as Thai food goes it’s passable some days but definitely would not recommend.

I’d have to second the vote for Shuhei. And not just for sushi, either — it’s one of my fave restaurants in Cleveland for their entire menu.

I like Tomo in Strongsville the best.
Otani is good too.
Pacific East , Sushi Rock, and Sakura are not so hot.
Sushi on the Roll has very Americanized stuff, mostly with high-calorie sauces. I guess it’s ok if you like that kind of thing.

Tomo is Strongsville has the best sushi, followed by Pacific East on Coventry in Cleve. Hts.
Sushi Rock is loud, trendy, overpriced, and most of all the sushi is SUB par.

I’ve been a bunch of sushi places in the area, and have to say I prefer either Akira Hibachi in Solon or Shuhei. Very fresh and very delicious. Akira Hibachi has pretty slow service, but the sushi is worth the wait.

I’ve gone to Sakura in Brecksville many times. Never been disappointed. They have the hibachi also but the sushi is the best. They get lots of take out business too.

Went to Sushi Rock at Beachwood Mall last night with my family and was supremely disappointed. For some of the highest priced sushi I have found (even counting major metro areas like LA and NYC), this experience was a disappointment. The fish was very good but the sushi rice was of a consistency that reminded me and my wife of leftover wallpaper paste. It was remarkably flavorless – a conspicuous lack of sushi vinegar – and also clumped together as if it was severely overcooked or left in the cooker for too long. I’ve had sushi all over the world, Asia included, and unfortunately Sushi Rock is a pretender to the throne.
Our server was delightful and the decor of the establishment is tres-chic, but the overall food experience left me wanting. Next time I want to drop $150 on sushi in Cleveland OH, I’ll look elsewhere.

Used to live in Toyko, and there are 2 authentic Japanese places in town: Shuhei and Shinano. Both Japanese owned with Nihonjin staff.
Neither Sushi Rock and Pac. East are authentic at all.
Want to know a good sushi place? Order toro (plain tuna). If you have to put sauce on it to enjoy the food, it’s a bad place. If the place doesn’t know what chu-toro (fatty tuna – awesome) is, run.

Shuhei is THE best in all of cleveland. There is no exception. The place is authentic Japanese decor and the food is fresh always prepared in an expert way. The other menu items such as ribeye steak are just fantastic. I have never been there and been disapointed.
To me, there is no other Sushi establishment in Cleveland.

by far the BEST SUSHI in Northeast Ohio……YOU MUST GO TO YOUNG’S SUSHI in downtown Willoughby…….Best Sushi, best prices, best service.
Small restaurant in a unique location…..a “Diamond in the Rough”. Your chef has YEARS of experience and his FRESH FRESH ingredients, and the special rice make for an awesome combination. Be sure to try the “Clark” Roll. And ALWAYS try to daily specials!!!!!!!!

Youngs hands down best sushi on the East side! The volcano is awesome as is pretty much anything on the menu. Definately try the daily specials. The servers are always helpful and you can bring your own beverage of choice and they don’t charge a corkage fee. YUM now I am drooling for some sushi

There is a hidden gem in parma called Watami. You can buy sushi by the pound and mix and match what you want from their buffet. Very fresh and great staff and inexpensive.
