cleveland sushi Cleveland Sushi has suddenly become the topic de jour of my inbox.  Everyone wants to know where you can get good sushi in Cleveland.

Personally, I’m of the opinion that our beautiful little city is a bit too far away from any salt water to be looking for sushi, but there are a number of people willing to live on the edge.

My little sis spends a lot of time at Sushi Rock, but is the the best place to get sushi in Cleveland?  Let me know in the comments.

Pacific East at Coventry. We’ve tried it all, and this really, really is the best. Authentic, fresh and fantastic!

  2. Sam Says:

The best sushi in Cleveland without a shadow of a doubt is Shinano, they used to be on Wilson Mills they closed and are opening soon on Mile’s.

Sushi Rock is trendy garbage, its a place for people who don’t really like Sushi to go and eat it.

A close second is Otani in Golden Gate in Mayfield.

  3. Banksy Says:

Mmmmm…. Lake Perch sushi. Gotta be the best in the US.

  4. Banksy Says:

In all seriousness, fresh salmon and tuna is not all that difficult to get here. I bet your Hopkins gets daily flights of the fare for the local eateries.

I perfer mostly tuna or salmon in my sushi… not a huge fan of the eel, but I’ll eat it if we all order it at the bar.

I only eat sushi when our of town in LA or NYC… and would rarely eat it for dinner. It’s a great lunch in my opinion.

Ginza over by Jacobs Field has always been my favorite.

Heard great things about Parallax, im heading there sometime this month for their sushi.

It’s supposed to be some of the best around, I can’t wait.

“the lure” in downtown willoughby. pricey, but a lovely little place with awesome miso soup. the sushi was good when i had it there (a few years back…..)

  8. Benjamin Derr Says:

Shinto’s in Strongsville has a great selection and freshness for those of us south of the city.

  9. Mark Says:

Pacific East at Eton is great. Akira in Solon also has good sushi.

I agree Shinano was very good and I’m glad to see from another post that they are reopening.

Sushi Rock downtown and in Beachwood is fair.

  10. Sam Says:

    Its called Lure Bistro.

Pacific East in Eaton is crap, there Coventry location is at least 100 times better.

  11. David Mead Says:

Hand’s down the best sushi I’ve had in and around Cleveland was from Kimo’s Sushi Shop on Fulton Road.

  12. TIMMY Says:

PACIFIC EAST IS FAR AND AWAY THE BEST IN THE CITY, MAYBE THE MIDWEST. SUSHI ROCK IS ABSOLUTE GARBAGE…I CAN’T EVEN EAT IT.

  13. slowfood Says:

I can’t believe no one has mentioned shuhei in beachwood. i would say better than sushi rock, although i admire sushi rock’s creativity.

  14. James Says:

Pacific East in Coventry is the best sushi place I have eaten in Cleveland, but then I have only tried sushi places on the East Side.

  15. tcgeagan Says:

I second Ginza! Not as flashy or trendy as some of the others, but if you are looking for great sushi this is the place to go!

  16. Evan Says:

Sakura in Brecksville was very good, but I haven’t been there in about 2 years.

Sushi on the Roll in Akron has by far the BEST sushi.. most people don’t even know about this place yet and we have been there every week it has been open.

The owners Ken Oppenheimer and Jon Roller have an awesome concept. The company is growing and we are glad to be customers!

  19. kat Says:

THIS PALCE CALLED THAI CHARM BEST EVER SUPER FRESH… OMG IS IS AMAZING..ITS ON BROADVEIW AND PLEASENT VALLEY IN PARMA.. SUSHI ROCK IS CRAP

  20. LoafingOaf Says:

I’d have to second the vote for Shuhei. And not just for sushi, either — it’s one of my fave restaurants in Cleveland for their entire menu.

  21. HubBub Says:

I like Tomo in Strongsville the best.

    Otani is good too.

Pacific East , Sushi Rock, and Sakura are not so hot.

Sushi on the Roll has very Americanized stuff, mostly with high-calorie sauces. I guess it’s ok if you like that kind of thing.

  22. Joe Says:

Tomo is Strongsville has the best sushi, followed by Pacific East on Coventry in Cleve. Hts.

Sushi Rock is loud, trendy, overpriced, and most of all the sushi is SUB par.

  23. Jill Says:

I’ve been a bunch of sushi places in the area, and have to say I prefer either Akira Hibachi in Solon or Shuhei. Very fresh and very delicious. Akira Hibachi has pretty slow service, but the sushi is worth the wait.

  24. jim Says:

I’ve gone to Sakura in Brecksville many times. Never been disappointed. They have the hibachi also but the sushi is the best. They get lots of take out business too.

  25. Rob Says:

Went to Sushi Rock at Beachwood Mall last night with my family and was supremely disappointed. For some of the highest priced sushi I have found (even counting major metro areas like LA and NYC), this experience was a disappointment. The fish was very good but the sushi rice was of a consistency that reminded me and my wife of leftover wallpaper paste. It was remarkably flavorless – a conspicuous lack of sushi vinegar – and also clumped together as if it was severely overcooked or left in the cooker for too long. I’ve had sushi all over the world, Asia included, and unfortunately Sushi Rock is a pretender to the throne.

Our server was delightful and the decor of the establishment is tres-chic, but the overall food experience left me wanting. Next time I want to drop $150 on sushi in Cleveland OH, I’ll look elsewhere.

otanis is up there, shu hei is bomb, pacific east is too fishy! sushi rock and lure are not so good….i hear sunset lounge dt is great!

  27. vince Says:
