garlic taste
Is it just me or did garlic used to be a lot more, well, garlicy?  It seems like no matter where I purchase it from, I’m always using more than called for in recipes to achieve the same flavor.  Garlic has lost its garlic taste.

It could be that the garlic often sold in stores is the “soft neck” variety which has less flavor, but is easier to grow and pull.

Or, maybe my tongue is just messed-up.

Most of the garlic in commercial stores is, believe it or not, being shipped in from China. Number one, you don’t know how it was grown or what it was treated with, which can affect the taste, and two, you have time and distance working against you.

All of the farmer’s market garlic we got before ours came in was far superior. Also, Mustard Seed Market carries the stem garlic from Kiem’s organic farm, which is local.

I get mine from PEninsula Farmer’s Market, over at Covered Bridge Gardens. They don’t grow it, but the farm next door does and, MAN!, is it garlicky. Try it!
