Have you ever been to the restaurant MALLORCA? It’s located on West 9th Street in downtown Cleveland. A few weeks ago, the Latin America Sales Team that my husband supports came in to town for a week long training. The last night they were here, they wanted to go shopping and then out to dinner. We decided to take them to Mallorca.
Neither my husband or I had ever been there, so we weren’t quite sure what to expect. I must say, we were both pleased with the whole experience. From the moment we were seated to the moment we got up to leave we were given excellent service. My water glass was never empty and the table was cleared after every course.
Since we had never been there, I decided to check out their menu online first. I figured I’d like to have an idea of what types of dishes were being served at dinner so I didn’t end of being that “person”, and yes we all know there’s one in a group, that takes forever looking at the menu deciding what to order. After reviewing the menu – pasta dishes, rice dishes, fish, steak…. pretty much a little bit of everything, I decided to go ahead and try the Paella Valenciana. If you been reading our site for a while, you’ll know that I grew up in Venezuela. There is quite a “melting pot” within my group of friends, one couple in particular are from Spain. They used to make this dish for me and the rest of my family all the time. I felt like trying something that perhaps would bring those special Sunday evening dinner memories flood back to me. Indeed, it was an excellent choice. For those of you who have never heard of Paella let me go through the ingredients so you can get and idea. To start off it’s made with saffron seasoned rice to which they add chicken pieces, thin slices of chorizo, shrimp,a halved lobster tail, baby scallops, clams, and to top it off they have mussels lining the plate.
If you enjoy the ingredients I just listed, you HAVE TO TRY THE PAELLA VALENCIANA!!! It’s the perfect place to take that “special someone” to. If you end up going, make sure you let me know about your experience…. I’d love to hear from you!

Their garlic shrimp appetizer is to die for. Just thinking about it makes me drool. I had the crab stuffed lobster tail. So delicious, but sooo much more food than I had expected. But it made a great lunch the next day.

If you’re feeling adventurous you should definitely try pulpo a la gallega there, Galician Octopus with olive oil and paprika. It’s not on the menu, but is occasionally offered as a special and the kitchen will almost always make it.
