I’ve been considering buying a side of beef lately, actually a quarter, but I had a heck of time finding out where I could do that locally.  I came across a great site, Eat Wild, who’s Ohio page provides a great list of Ohio farms where you can buy a side of beef, free range chickens or a whole hog.

My brother and law raises cows and sells them as well. They live south of Medina…. we did it once, but it is a lot of meat. It lasted over a year. Things I recommend if you go this route:

    1. Make sure that you tell them how you want the steaks cut. We ended up with a lot of steaks, the problem was they were all 1/2 inch thin.

    2. Decide what you want done with the tongue, hoofs, tripe, and stuff like that. You get it all.

    3. Talk to them about the hamburger mix. I like 80/20, but most I think do not put so much fat in them and keep the meat very lean. See if they can adjust to your liking.

    4. Find out how it is given to you. Ours came already vacuum sealed… steaks individually, hamburger in 1 lb lots. Roasts individual as well.

It really was convenient to have the meat, and if you need people to go in with you to break it up, give me a shout, we’ll try it again.

We have a huge stand up freezer in our basement we bought just for this. I’m gonna go check your link and reconsider this again… let me know if you need more to go in and split the cost.
