As Clevelanders we are lucky to have some of the best Pizza in the country.  We may not have a specific pizza style to our credit like New York or Chicago, but you can find some awesome pie here in Northeastern Ohio.

J's Pizza Market Easy Pizza
I love trying new pizza places in and around Cleveland, you never know when you’re going to find a new favorite.  I tried a new place just a few weeks ago with my wife called J’s Pizza Market.  Their motto is “A fresh and healthy approach to traditional pizza” and they couldn’t be more accurate.  From the toppings to the crust I don’t know if I have ever tasted another pizza so fresh.

Located on Center St.
They used to reside next to Great Harvest Bread on Mentor Avenue, but they have since moved to Center St. (RT.615) between RT.2 and Mentor Avenue.

J’s Pizza Market does not deliver, but they give everyone that walks in the door a free slice of pizza and that alone is worth the trip.  The restaurant has a number of tables if you’d prefer to sit down and eat, but you can also take your pizza to go in two forms.  Either let them cook your pizza up in their beautiful wood stone hearth oven or take it raw and follow their step-by-step instructions to cook it in your oven.

Fresh, Fresh Pizza
J’s Pizza Market offers a pizza for anyone’s palate, from the adventurous to my wife.  They have a great selection of “Pizza Recipes” for you to choose from that takes out all the guesswork.  I really liked the looks of the Rosa Bella and the Underbrush, but I opted for the Caribbean on my visit.  I did get a little creative and have them make it on fresh wheat crust.

If you want to come up with your own creation you can always do that as well.  My wife created a pizza with mushrooms, sausage, pepperoni and two kinds of cheese.

We had some movies waiting at home so we got ours to go, but I was certainly tempted by the big stone oven.  I can imagine a pie sliding out of there being pretty tasty.

While we ate our complimentary slices of pizza, a worker put together our pies.  I walked down to look at all of the ingredients and everything looked so fresh.  I saw something I appreciated because the mushrooms has some age on them but the person helping us threw out that batch and got some new ones from the back.  I bet they don’t throw out a lot of toppings at Domino’s, regardless of how old they are.

Take and Bake
The worker handed us our two bundles of joy and we whisked them off to our happy home.  J’s Pizza Market, knowing that you don’t work at a pizzeria provides step-by-step instructions on how to heat up your pizza.

Cooking is as easy as setting your oven to 425° and baking in the provided dish for 10-15 minutes depending on the desired doneness level.  If you’re like my old lady and you enjoy a thicker crust you just need to let your pizza sit at room temperature for a bit.  Ours turned out great:

I know it look like I burnt the hell out of mine, but I like my pizza a bit darker and I got really distracted watching Anton Chigurh put holes in people’s foreheads.

J’s Pizza Market Pizza = Tasty
My wife’s pizza was done first, so that was the first one I tried and it was excellent.  The freshness of the ingredients really shined and unlike other pizzas where everything is kind of blah, this pizza really had a lot of good flavor.  The crust was very good with a nice crisp outside and firm doughy center.

My Caribbean pizza was awesome, wicked hot, but awesome.  The toppings were so good, including real chicken breast slices and the spices were just great together.  This was my first pizza with wheat crust so I did my best to get used it, but I think I would have rather had it with the regular crust.  All and all a very good pie.

Do you want to try J’s Pizza Market?
My wife and I loved J’s Pizza Market. They offer very good pizza with fresh toppings at some great prices.  A large cheese pizza is only $9.95!  I know we’ll be going back soon, my wife has already asked me twice since we went there last week.

The owner of J’s Pizza Market hooked me up with some free pizzas to give away to you.  This contest will be for Lake County Ohio residents only.  You people in Lorain County can go buy your own pizza.

I’ve got four free pizzas to give away. Be one of the first four people to email me here with this in the subject line:

Mark you are awesome, give me some free pizza!

I’m pathetic, I know this.

Update: The contest is now closed, boy that was fast!

I must start by saying that I can’t wait to try J’s Pizza based on your reccomendation. I must say that when I began to read this post I started laughing because I thought that you were being sarcastic.I am originally from NY and have lived in Cleveland for the past ten years. Ironically, I have 6 close friends that I grew up with in NY that also now live in Cleveland. We have a longstanding joke about the pizza available in Cleveland. Most of us refuse to order pizza and only eat it when we visit home. I can honestly say that I have never had a slice of pizza in Cleveland that I considered decent. Obviously, we all have been spoiled by grewing up with the best pizza available however I can say that throughout my travels I have had some great pizza in many other cities. In fact, I lived in Nashville for a few years and didn’t think pizza could get much worse. That was of course until I moved to Cleveland. Based on the opening paragraph of this post I gotta know where you go in Cleveland that has “some of the best pizza in the counry”. After reading your review and seeing these pictures I can’t get out to J’s fast enough. Keep up the good work. I enjoy reading your post.

BTW, we all have the same opinion on chicken wings. Cleveland is the worst. Pizzaz in UH are probaly the best I have had locally and enjoy The Winking Lizard on occasion. Any places I should check out?

I was born and bred in Cleveland and I have to agree. I live on the west side, give me some recommendations for the “best pizza in the country” because I haven’t found any around here yet. I think the closest might be Danny Boys but the drive from Parma is a little far. I have heard the new “Jets” in Middleburg Heights is really decent but haven’t tried it yet. Thanks.

Are you serious – some of the best pizza in the country? Where?? If I loved in Lake county I’d try J’s, but since I’m a westsider I don’t get to Mentor that often and am not going to trek over there for pizza.

I have searched this town high and low for pizza to like (not even love) but I am seriously hard pressed. Vincenza’s downtown is decent, but really looking for something in Western suburbs – please don’t say Danny Boys – way too doughy. I want thin crust, with a normal proportion of sauce/cheese, I find it’s either swimming in both or dry. Sorrento’s is OK, but the crust is bland ( I dont think they use salt in the dough).

All three are on the East Side and may be a drive for you but Mama Santa’s, Geraci’s and Pizzazz are not bad.

I was one of the winners in the “Mark you are awesome, give me some free pizza!” contest. Picked up my free pizza yesterday! I ordered the “Maui” and also bought a “Little Italy” pizza. MMM-MMM-GOOD. I wanted to try something different, and since I had never had pizza with pineapple, oranges, and Canadian bacon before, that seemed like a good choice – it was delicious! Very different. Little Italy was excellent too. Thanks for the free coupon!

Ok, I have to join in with the “Are you kidding?!?” replies. Like Mickey I starting laughing when I read your review, thinking it was a joke. I was born and raised in Rochester NY and have been here in Lake County for 3 decades. Other than Pizzazz in Mayfield Hts. before the original owner sold I haven’t found any pizza that I’d say is better than 3 on a 5 rating scale. The quality of a bar pizza from Panini’s or sometimes Winking Lizard challenges any pizzeria I’ve found here. So, please, enlighten me too.
