We’re about a week away from St.Patrick’s Day, the International holiday of beer and corned beef, and I want to be prepared.  I’ve talked about a number of my favorite corned beef places in Cleveland:

I’m interested in trying somewhere new though, but I don’t feel like wasting a special day like St.Patrick’s day on crummy corned beef.  So, I want to know, where is your favorite place to get corned beef in the Cleveland area?

Dude, maybe you should change the name to EatingEastOfCleveland.com. How can you leave out Slyman’s?

I think you should EXCLUDE Slymans since they are only open M-F until 2pm and aren’t open on the weekends. I’d have to take a vacation day to go there.

Don’t get him started on Slyman’s, you just might get a private e-mail telling you that Harvard Deli is better. But I do have to say, although Slyman’s is my “fave” I wouldn’t go near the place on St. Paddy’s Day.

How can you say that Slyman’s is better than Harvard Deli when you’ve never tried Harvard Deli? I’m just saying.

I have to agree that Slyman’s is delicious. Also, House of Corned Beef near Shaker Square is very good. And please let’s not forget Vienna Distributing on Carnegie. Seriously.

There is life west of the Cuyahoga. The best corned beef on the west side is Goodman’s on Pearl and Brookpark. In my opinion, it is as good as Slyman’s and better than Corky and Lenny’s.

Upon another readers above recommendation, I decided to try B & J’s Corned Beef Shoppe & Deli @ 9717 Lorain Ave on St.Ptricks day and have to say that it was NOT good. The prices were on the higher side ($8.00 for a corned beef sandwich with cheese by itself, no chips or fries), the sandwiches were on the small side, the staff was unfriendly, and most importantly, the corned beef was very fatty. I probably picked off about 25% of my sandwich in the form of dense white fat. I’m sorry to say that it was the worst corned beef sandwich I’ve ever bought from a restaurant.

Goodman’s, Hands down. Slyman’s is ok, but goodmans is excellent!!!! Get and extra pickle and see if you can’t get him to smile. He stands all day hand cutting the beef in the window of this small narrow joint.

Well how about going a little south west. On Broadview Rd just south of Rt. 82 Corned Beef Cafe. By far the best corned beef sandwich ever. And the price was right. Just under 6.00

I grew up in South Euclid, have eaten, Solomons, later the Rascals, Leftons, Jacks Deli, Symans, Corky and Lennys, Goodmans, and Simons. Here are my rankings for the ones that exist today, and lets not forget Davis bakery. The winner only on size is slymans. Jacks Deli is tied with Davis Bakery, Goodmans and Corky and Lennys right there insignificant differences and Slymans included. Simons and Deli rank lower on the scale. Thats how I see it and Im 51 grew up eating corned beef in elementary school.

Look at the comments here, Slymans is the hands down winner by a mile and I have tried all of them. Why do you think they can survive being open from 5am to 2:30pm M-F? They sell a ton because it is that good! Better than NY City.

So can we just bypass the restaurants and get the corned beef at Vienna at a better price?

Just had Slyman’s recently. Sandwich is now ten bucks and not as big or tasty as I remember. I have eaten a hundred of them since the 1970′s. and I can see a decline over the years.
