I had a restaurant suggestion from a dear reader, Stacy.  She said that the Updupi Cafe in Parma Hts. is now her favorite restaurant.  I first thought that she made a typo with the name, but The Updupi Cafe is an Indian restaurant and most of their dishes are vegetarian.

Anyone else tried the Updupi Cafe?  I’d like to know your thoughts.

My family is Indian, and this is one of the few Indian restaurants that we will actually go to. When you go there, it is filled with mostly Indian families. I would say it is some of the best authentic South Indian vegetarian food in the area. I highly recommend it! Get the Dosas!

About a year ago some Indian friends of ours brought us here, ordered multiple dishes and everyone shared. The food was spectacular and not like what you usually see at other Indian restaurants. The fact that our friends recommended this place and that the restaurant was full of Indian families was a good sign that we were getting authentic fare. The food and the service were both excellent.

As a non-Indian, and not being familiar with South Indian cuisine we found the menu overwhelming. As the commenter above mentions it was full of Indian families, we felt a little out of place. We had found an old review in the free times or scene which recommended a few dishes and we went with those and were not disappointed. Udupi is a must for vegetarians as they have a lot of tasty vegetarian dishes that have a lot of different flavors that you probably have never tried before.

Another non-Indian fan of Updupi here. Great Indian grocery store next door too.

I’ve been there quite a few times and it’s always been great. Channa Batura (sp?) is my favorite thing there. It includes the most exciting bread I’ve ever enjoyed.

Hope you make it there. East Coast Custard is across the street if you’re still hungry for dessert.
