I swear to God, this Luisa’s Restaurant in Geneva post is like a eating bowl of ice cream after a night of drinking beer.  It just keeps coming up and coming up.

Today I received an email from Vickie telling me what a wonderful guy I am, or that’s at least how I took it. Vickie must have a lot of free time, because her hatemail was looooong.  I’ve put the whole thing after the break for those with a few hours to kill, but here are some of my favorite parts of the diatribe:

Your comments about the (cook)owner and the waitress were way off base.  Gee “no teeth” and “curly haired middle aged woman”.  Who the hell are you Brad Pit?  I doubt it.

Brad Pit?  I am not familiar with this Brad Pit you talk of.

I also didn’t know you have to be Mexican to cook Mexican food. Does that mean you have to be a clown to cook at McDonalds? I didn’t realize that you had to be the same nationality of the restaurant you own. Isn’t that discrimination. That’s it, I am telling my husband no more spaghetti because I am not Italian. The next  time I go to eat Chinese they better have some Chinese people eating there or I am leaving.

Is McDonald’s clown food? Do Clown’s have their own cuisine?

Your remarks were very cruel.  If you live in Ashtabula County shame on you. It is hard enough to start a business in this community and we don’t need people like you running it down. If you live in another nearby county stay there. Obviously it meets your criteria.

Ashtabula County is beautiful, especially this time of the year.  What with its vibrant culture and thriving business community.  I hate to tell you this Vickie, but the best restaurant in Ashtabula might very well be the Sheetz on North Ridge Road.

I’m thinking about starting a new movement Vickie, what do you think:

Below is Vickie’s entire letter.  Enjoy. (Left as sent, no editing done)

Mark,
Wow a Mexican restaurant 20 min. from your house!  Let’s see, I am trying my best to figure out where you live or better yet where you are from.
I eat at Luisa’s once a week, and so do a lot of people.
The food is great!!!!  The portions are great. The owner and her staff go out of their way to be friendly.  Of course if the place is packed like it usually is, they don’t have time
to visit, but you do get hot food and great service. The food is traditional Mexican food that the customer seasons to taste.  Not everyone likes spicy food, or can eat it for that matter.  That is why there are several salsas to choose from.  What is nice about Luisa’s is if you want it spicy you tell the waitress and the owner makes it as hot as you like.  What pre-packaged, microwaved restaurant do you get that from?
What really irritates me is the way you described the place.
It looks like an old Mexican canteena, that is what gives it the great atmosphere.  I also don’t get the comment on the kitchen.  Ever been to a 1950’s diner? Guess what? The cooking area is right where you can see it. You must not go to Japanese restaurants either. Luisa’s is clean and so is the cooking area.  Also, what difference does it make where the owner started from,(a trailer or the back of a bus)?  What were you born with a silver spoon in your mouth?  Luisa’s owner is building her business the American way.  Not everyone can start off with a 5 star restaurant. Also, her business hours are posted on the door.
It has taken her a long time to put Luisa’s together and she has worked long and hard to do it. The buildings in Geneva have been neglected for years!!!!!!  However there are a few of us who have a vision. We have bought those old buildings and we are slowly repairing them.  Believe you me it takes a lot of time and money.  We see Geneva as a tourist town with quaint shops and yes quaint restaurants like Luisa’s. You sound like you have the typical strip mall mentality.  Tear it down and build it bigger and better.  Baloney!!!!  What right do you have to make the crude and cruel comments that you did? If you didn’t like the food or the service fine. You are entitled to your opinion.   Your comments about the (cook)owner and the waitress were way off base.  Gee “no teeth” and “curly haired middle aged woman”.  Who the hell are you Brad Pit?  I doubt it. I also didn’t know you have to be Mexican to cook Mexican food. Does that mean you have to be a clown to cook at McDonalds? I’ll tell you what. Why don’t you pick that lady up that was going to the Botanical Garden downtown, (you know out here in the sticks there is no where to shop or eat, what a shame), obviously another one of the elite and go to a restaurant that is much more suitable for your class. Whatever class that is. Better yet do you know where to take 4 kids that are 3-8 to lunch?  McDonalds, then they can run around like monkeys and play in the play area.  That way when my friends and I go to a restaurant to relax and eat, maybe have a drink, we don’t have to listen to them.

dude, there was a little bit of August lovin’ in that lovely email too since I’m the elite Botanical Garden lady that likes to expose my children to good food. Yipee.. I feel so special.

  2. Mark Says:

I forgot about that. I thought she was just talking crazy. I’ll be sure to send her your email address so that she can keep emailing you about what an elitist snob you are.

What is it about the Botanical Gardens that makes them elite?

  3. august Says:

I couldn’t help but comment about this today in my blog. haha.

I guess being elite means you have to like good food and take your children to educational places for fun.

    Long live the elite!!!

I never thought I would rather have VD than a run-in with Geneva. She should spend more time at cooking school (and English lessons gauging from her partial literacy) then worrying about a bad review. If she really had any professional moxy she would invite you back for another meal and make sure the food tasted half decent.
