One of my favorite readers, rockandroller, left this comment today about the Melt expansion:

FYI Mark, they are not expanding the seating area. They are expanding but it’s to give the server station more room. They cannot take on any more seats due to the small kitchen, they had a real hard time keeping up when the patio was open in the summer. This is info from a friend who knows the people at Melt.

How troubling I thought, to expand the restaurant but not increase the number of tables.  So I emailed Matt Fish, owner of Melt, to see what he had to say:

We will be adding additional seating in our new expansion.  The plan is to add between 25-30 new seats.  We also plan to use the new space for a host and to-go station.  We will also have a large, comfortable waiting area to enjoy drinks while waiting for a table.

I still want to keep Melt small and intimate.  The new space will help us solve some of our uncomfortable overcrowding problems.  It will also shorten the wait for a table.

Awesome, like Rosario Dawson.
