You know what’s better than a work lunch? Absolutely nothing. Not only do you get free food, but you are essentially getting paid to eat. How sweet is that? Can you imagine if your job description consisted of you getting to eat all day long? I’d weigh 300 lbs. Uh, wait ….
A vendor at work took my team out to lunch this week at Brio in Legacy Village. I wasn’t that interested in Brio, so I recommended Paladar in Eaton, but I got out-voted. What the hell do I know? Apparently nothing.
Brio at lunch time was buzzing with activity as our group was seated at a large table next to the windows along the front of the restaurant. The guy that picked out the chairs at Brio must have had one nice ass because the size of the small seat on my chair made me feel like I was playing hide-the-plate with my fat ass. There were a couple of times where I turned quickly and thought it might have slipped in there.
With that visual on your mind, I will proceed to discuss the food.
For lunch I ordered the risotto and salad ($11.95) selecting the chicken and butternut squash risotto with the Bistecca salad.
Our food soon arrived, allowing me to focus on something other than honing my acting skills. The Bistecca salad is a wedge of lettuce topped with bacon, tomatoes, Gorgonzola cheese and a creamy Parmesan dressing. It probably would have been really good had the lettuce been dried properly, or at all. This thing was wetter than a West Virginian girl at a family reunion. After a few cuts, the water from the lettuce had diluted the dressing to a point where it was almost tasteless. It was not very appetizing.
The risotto on the other hand was delicious! Although it may have been a bit too salty, the risotto had excellent flavor which balanced the creaminess of the salad dressing. The chicken added a hearty component to the dish, but the real star was the butternut squash. The squash had been cooked perfectly preserving some of its firmness with tiny bits of sweet carmelization coating the outside. Really a good dish and I was quite happy to have ordered it considering the rest of the table was less than pleased with their sandwiches.
What a fantastic lunch this was. Brio provided excellent service and delicious food during my visit to their Legacy Village location. While they could have used some help on their furniture selection, they got the important part right: the food. I actually feel a bit bad about recommending another restaurant because I didn’t want to go to Brio. Ok, not that bad.
