Reader Terry emailed me today asking if I knew of any diners in the Cleveland area open all night. He lives on the West side, so any over there would be preferred.

I got off work at 3 a.m. for the last year and a half, but other than the craphole that is Denny’s, I never saw any restaurant open 24 hours a day.

If you know of a place, leave it in the comments, Terry will greatly appreciate it.

Don’t worry if you are on a weight loss program. Servings for special k diet are also available. And for cardiac patients, soup diet can be served on cheap rates.

On the westside? The Expressway Diner on Memphis is the king. Open 24 hours a day, and fairly inexpensive, too. The food is excellent, as far as diner food goes, and it’s a pretty fun place, too.

There are three diners at or near W. 117th and Clifton: My Friends (on Detroit @ 117), Dianna’s (on 117) and City Diner (I think that’s what it’s called… at 117 and Clifton). There are also a couple of IHOPs around town that are open 24 hrs.

    My Friend’s Deli in Lakewood.

Expressway is 24hr but we only go there when nothing else is open…typical diner food (ie, greasy and bad for you but sometimes that’s what you crave!). Service can be kinda slow and they assume that you are a regular. I have been a few times and still don’t know if I’m supposed to wait to be seated or not (I’ve been told both).

Ok, here goes, all WESTSIDE, in addition to the above posts, and I agree, Expressway is pretty decent.. *2 IHOPS-THEY BOTH SUCK(On Brookpark Rd, just West of Tiedeman, and in the new Steelyard Commons),*2 Bob’s Big Boys-NOT BAD (The first one is at West 130th and Brookpark, the other is at Canal and Granger in Valley View) *Vienna’s-SPECTACULARLY RUDE OWNER/HOST-THEY HAVE A BREAKFAST BUFFET OVERNIGHT SATURDAYS(Brookpark and Pearl), *Rubins-ALWAYS DECENT FOOD AND SERVICE (West 150th and Lorain), *Steve’s-GOOD GREASY SPOON, COP ON DUTY WEEKENDS, CRAZY FREAKSHOW ATMOSPHERE (West 53rd and Lorain), *City View-HIT OR MISS, USUALLY SUCKS(West 117 and Clifton), *Diannas-USUALLY OK(on West 117th, between Clifton and Detroit),*Pizza King-IN BEREA, OPEN 24 HOURS 7 DAYS A WEEK,PRETTY DECENT (On a street called Seminary, a little South of Bagley, big Baldwin Wallace following),*Dimitris-HAVEN’T BEEN FOR AWHILE, BUT OK (West 110th and Lorain), Those are all 24 hour restaurants. The next few places serve late…*Mardi Gras Lounge-I LOVE THIS PLACE, SERVES FOOD TILL 4 AM FRI/SAT (On East 21st, North of Euclid) *Nunzio’s Pizza-TAKEOUT, BUT MAKES PIZZA ETC. UNTIL 4 A.M WEEKDAYS, 3 A.M. WEEKNIGHTS (West 73rd and Lorain) *And…for an upscale but inexpensive place..Lava Lounge-KITCHEN OPEN UNTIL 2AM WEEKENDS, GREAT FOOD(In Tremont-Lincoln Park area, 1307 Auburn, East of West 14th just North of Steelyard Commons Area). Yes, my friends all work goofy hours and the only time we can get together is usually Saturday after midnight…what more can I say???

I appreciate the responses…. definitely going to try them out. I am unfortunately a nocturnal person… I usually go to bed at 4-5am and get up around noon. I am fortunate to have a job where I work from home and I cover the West Coast with my clients, so it works out well.

Steve’s Lunch at W.50th and Lorain Ave. Hot dogs, chili dogs, and assorted all-night diner fare served at the counter. A busy place, open 24/7, serving a diverse group of folks ranging from blue collar workers on the night shift, cops, hookers, drunk yuppies from Westlake, crackheads and more. All lined up elbow to elbow.
It’s in a crappy part of town, but trust me, you feel safer there at 3am than at 3pm.
Not as predictable as a Bob Evans, waaay better than any Denny’s in the country, and as they say, atmosphere is everything. FIVE stars from this former westsider who ate there every night for about three years.

Chuck’s Diner on Lee Rd. has recently restored its 24 hour status. Not bad for a greasy burger or corned beef hash.

Just visited Bar Cento (attched to Biermarkt) on West 25th across the street from the West Side Market…OMG, great late night menu…they serve food till 2:30 a.m. It is a limited menu, but they have these gourmet, crispy wood fired pizzas. I tried one of those and for dessert I had a roasted pear in honey-vinaigrette sauce with local goat cheese drizzled in honey…heaven! Definitely NOT Dennys!

Chuck’s recently closed, again. Now open as “Potbelly Diner”. Have not been there, but the hours are irregular and certainly not 24/7.
