I went to lunch last week at the Claddagh Irish Pub in Legacy Village with a number of coworkers and although everyone said their meals were just great, mine was terrible.

I’d been to the Claddagh once previously. Actually that reminds me of a funny story that I can now tell since we’re married. I took Jessie to the Claddagh for our sixth anniversary of dating, we even dressed up for the occasion. It was a really special night for the two of us. After the meal we got back into my truck, but instead of starting it, I just sat there for a second. I turned to her and said, “Jessie, I have a question. Will you share your life with me?” Her lips started to quiver and tears slid down her cheeks. She said through her crying, “Yes, yes I will! I love you Mark!” That was when I said, “Great, I hear its a good game.” and I pulled Life, the board game, out of my backseat and gave it to her as an anniversary gift. She was so pissed. I thought it was cute, but I didn’t realize that she was gonna take it to the next level in her mind. Silly girl.

Now my visit last week wasn’t so much fun. First off there wasn’t any poor girl’s heart to break, but also too, the food was absolute garbage. By the way, who the hell put together the menu at Claddagh? Ceasar salad, Balsamic chicken and Pesto Pasta Primavera? Those sound like traditional Irish favorites to me! Hell yeah, I can remember when my grandma used to break out the good Irish Balsamic vinegar from Cork. Oh, those were the days.

For lunch last week I opted for something that could actually be considered somewhat traditionally Irish, the fish and chips. They forgot an ingredient though, flavor. I don’t know how they managed to deep fry a bunch of stuff and make it flavorless, but they did. It was really pathetic that a big time chain restaurant can’t even make a decent fish and chips.

Maybe the next time I go back I can get one of their Irish specialties, they’ll probably have General McTso’s Chicken by then.

One of the greatest elements of Irish heritage are the many types of Irish Food. Every culture has it’s own distinctive Traditions in fare from Christmas Foods to comfort foods that are served in every family. Wherever you are from you Food characterizes your customs.

It’s a good thing you didn’t try their Shamrock Sauce (I hope) It honestly tastes like it’ll have a great flavor, until you hit something that can only be described as dirt. As if half the recipe calls for the chef (cook) throwing the sauce all over the floor to get that rustic, Irish flavor.

Here’s to Corned Beef and Borscht!

Ok, so you pulled out the game of Life at the 6-year mark… how long after that did you actually propose?

Two years brother. Now that I think about it, we’ve had that game for a while. Maybe it was our fifth anniversary. If so, that would be 3 years.

We went to the Maple Grove, MN Claddagh last night. They didn’t even know what gluten-free beer is, and wondered if a celiac could eat sugar – would you like to try our cider?
