Big Walleye

Reader Mary sent in this question last week and I’m stumped:
 

A friend brought me a fish dinner from Cleveland. I was served with some sort of "red sauce", can you tell me what that sauce is and/or how to make it at home? It was not thick like BBQ sauce, it was actually similar to the dipping sauce they serve at the Swiss Chalet chain in Canada.

My only guess is that it may be some specialty in one of the ethnic areas of Cleveland, but I know I’ve never eaten fish with red sauce.

Update: Mary heard back from her friend regarding the fish and its from Whitmore’s BBQ.  Makes sense.
