I had never heard of Absinthe until a few years ago when I went to a Mitch Hedberg show and he did bit about the drink that went something like this:

I thought to myself, that is something that I have to find out about.  What I learned was that Absinthe is a highly alcoholic spirit that has a popular following across the world.  The drink also has a great deal of folklore associated with it.  There is even a little ritual you must go through in order to enjoy it correctly. 

You first pour a bit of the Absinthe into a glass.  On top of the glass you place a special slotted spoon onto which is laid a sugar cube.  Over the sugar cube is then poured ice cold water, which causes the previously clear Absinthe to turn cloudy.
