Mi Pueblo is one of those places I’ve wanted to visit for some time, but for one reason or another I always end up eating someplace else. However, Jason and I were able to make it down to Euclid Ave. just a few weeks ago and we couldn’t have been happier with the experience.

I’d read numerous times that this was the go-to eatery for students at Case and everyone else working near University Circle, so Jason and I got an early start in order to beat the lunch rush. When we arrived there were a few diners scattered throughout the restaurant, but we definitely weren’t going to be waiting for a table.

We were quickly greeted at the door by a very friendly man who seated us near the middle of the restaurant. Our waiter, Julian, immediately brought us chips, salsa and a number of pickled vegetables. The chips and salsa had that great homemade taste, but those pickled vegetables were wicked hot! Hell, there was even some hot carrots in there. Jason did prove his manliness by sampling one of the jalapenos and he said, "It wasn’t that hot", but I’m pretty sure I saw him cry.

Chips
See that carrot?  It actually burned a hole through that dish.

In a weird twist, after taking our drink orders, our waiter brought us two steaming bowls of chicken soup. Huh? It was just plain old chicken soup, certainly nothing special. I’m sure the restaurant makes it to use up leftover chicken and fill up waiting customers, but it didn’t quite fit with the whole Mexican theme.

For my meal I ordered the Tostadas Lunch with chorizo ($5.95) and it was better than a two-tailed spider monkey. It was so good! And although I could have easily eaten ten of them, the two I received were plenty to fill me up. If you do get these, do yourself a favor and get them with chorizo. The spicy, salty chorizo really sets off the whole tostada when topped with cool sour cream and lettuce.

Just seeing this picture makes me want one of these right now!

The service at Mi Pueblo was stellar the entire time. Our waiter Julian was on the damn ball making sure we had full drinks, plenty of napkins (we’re a very messy lot) and an overall great dining experience. You rock the hizzy Julian, keep it real for this playa!

Mi Pueblo was nothing less than fantastic. Great food with good portions at a fair price. Everyone we came into contact with the very friendly and helpful, we couldn’t have asked for anything more. Mi Pueblo is tops in our book for Mexican food in Cleveland.

I love Mi Pueblo! It’s not my vote for favorite Mexican in town, but it’s definitely worth a visit. I haven’t been there in over a year and now i’m hungry to go back. Glad you enjoyed it. Great blog, too.

I have to comment on the chicken soup not fitting into the Mexican theme. On the contrary, every dinner in a Mexican household starts with sopa. It might be chicken soup, or a tomato soup with pasta, or it might be rice. So it’s extremely authentic. On the negative side, about 5 years ago I went to Mi Pueblo and bought both red and green salsa to go. It was so bad I threw it out! Why do Amerimex restaurants insist on cooking green salsa? I never went back. I went to the Lorain branch-your pics look so good I might try the Euclid one.

Mi Pueblo is one on my favorite Mexican restaurants. We live in Pittsburgh. We often make the two hour trek just for their tacos. My husband is from Mexico. He said it is one of the most authenic.
