A new Winking Lizard opened up in Mentor near the end of March and I've already been there twice. It is located in the space that used to be Q21 about 6,000 years ago and then Buffalo's Cafe more recently. Winking Lizard has really opened the place up with a bar area on one side and restaurant on the other. I must say the place is very impressive inside. Flat screen TVs just about everywhere you look. However, they do have a live lizard there which is about the last thing I want to look at when I am eating.
During my first visit Jason and I sat at one of the high-top tables in the bar area. The first thing I noticed was their annoying-ass menu. Get this, there are advertisements on every other page. And its not like they are for upcoming events at the Winking Lizard, there were ads in there for tanning salons, used cars and even insurance. So for lunch I order 12 boneless wings with Thai sauce, homefries, and a two-month tanning package. My ass looks spectacular when tanned.Â
Now that I put that picture into your mind, onto the food. The homefries ($1.79) should have been included with that pet food recall, because they tasted like poison and were certainly not made for human consumption. The Thai boneless wings on the other hand, we awesome like Rosario Dawson. God they were good. Spicy and sweet, just like good Thai should be. And unlike every other chicken wing place on planet earth, the boneless wings at the Winking Lizard in Mentor cost less than the regular wings($6.99). And Jesus cried a happy tear.
The second time I went was less pleasant than the first. I learned my lesson from the first trip and replaced the homefries with french fries. Those were actually pretty good for french fries, nice and crispy on the outside. Just the way the big man likes them. I opted for the boneless chicken wings again, this time with the spicy garlic sauce. Well apparently the guy putting the sauce on them had a parole hearing to attend because they were half sauced, at best. I had to order a side of the spicy garlic sauce to even things up. The sauce itself was ok, I may order it again, but not any time soon. Very spicy, not so much garlic.Â
I really liked this new Winking Lizard in Mentor and I can't wait to watch a Browns game there. It's a pretty cool place so make sure you check it out (Baby, baby, baby). I have to get going though, tanning appointment.
