Stopped into the Mayfield Panini’s last week for a quick lunch with my Freedom Friend (American for Fiance) and one of the children she watches.  Before I go on here, let me pose this question, what the hell is with kids and ketchup?  They go crazy for that shit.  It’s like crack for kids.  I’m sure there are sketchy kindergartners peddling the stuff on the playground.  Back to Mayfield Panini’s.  We arrived right around noon on a Thursday and there was a pretty good crowd, but we were able to find a table near the back of the restaurant.

Our waitress for the day was Allison, who seemed a bit preoccupied, maybe it was because of all the patrons.  She did an alright job though and our drinks didn’t go empty during the meal which is definitely a weather-head of good service.  For starters we ordered the cheese fries ($6.50) and they were wicked good.  They take their hand-cut french fries, cover them in shredded fresh cheese, sprinkle on some bacon and finish it off under the broiler.  You wouldn’t think so, but these tasted great with malt vinegar.  It really cuts all the greasiness.

I ordered 12 garlic-Parmesan chicken wings ($6.95) for my lunch and they were more disappointing than Charlie Frye’s deep ball.  They were so bad.  To start with, the wings themselves were just garbage.  Out of 12 wings 4 of them contained shattered bones.  And nothing is more appetizing than chomping down on a chicken wing and getting a mouth full of bone shrapnel.  Delicious!  They must get a deal on chicken from the Mexican Cock Fighting organization.

What’s better on crappy chicken wings than a bland sauce?  I wouldn’t know, as the garlic-Parmesan at Panini’s might be the worst chicken wing sauce know to man.  I would have preferred if they were just dipped in poisoned Peter Pan peanut butter.  They were just plain bad.

I did myself a little research on the Panini’s website and I found this neat page about what new franchisees can expect when they start their own Panini’s.  You’ll notice there is no mention on there about serving food that tastes good.  I’m just saying.
