One of my favorite websites, The Consumerist, has a piece today about the Zagats dining guides. Zagats dining guides are those little books that rate all of the restaurants in a particular city. Well, thier full of crapola.
It seems that the good folks over at Zagats have been inflating thier ratings to the point where 70% of the restaurants in their book reach the "very good to excellent" rating. Zagats’ excuse is that they don’t put garbage restaurants into thier book. Makes sense, but then you find out this little tidbit:
One reason could be that the Zagats sell costly plaques to restaurants, the higher the score…the more expensive the plaque. Hmmm. That sounds ethical.
Sniff. Sniff. Smells like bullshit.
