I've pontificated before about my love for that salty meat that is corned beef, so I won't go into it today. Suffice it to say that corned beef is good to eat. While I love the corned beef at Corky and Lenny's, that's a pretty far drive for a sandwich. That's why my favorite corned beef place close to home is Manhattan Deli in Mentor.
I can't stand eating inside of Manhattan Deli. It has no ambiance whatsoever and the waitstaff has all the personality of a loaf of rye bread. However, I was forced to dine in since I was meeting people for lunch. It was a Wednesday just after noon and the place was barely half full. Not generally a good sign, maybe it was because of the rain. Just another quick note on the service, it took absolutely forever. When you consider they were putting together 4 sandwiches, 20 minutes is a little ridiculous.
Although I would have rather taken it to go, the corned beef is worth putting up with the hassle. Manhattan Deli serves some top notch corned beef which is all made inside the store. I'm not sure if it could beat out Corky and Lenny's corned beef, but it would be a close second. The portions are decent size as well, but they do play the classic deli trick of stacking all the meat right in the middle. That way, when they cut the sandwich, it looks like the meat is stacked two feet high. Total scam.
Like Bigfoot, this sandwich is so big, it is blurry.
Manhattan Deli has some damn good corned beef, but save a few precious moments of your life and get it to go.
