For those of you that have ever wanted to enjoy a meal in Painesville after 4 p.m. you know that [tag]Painesville[/tag], considering its size, is very hard up for restraurants. Maybe it is because the population decreases by half when all of the county workers slink back to Mentor, but very few restaurants in Painesville serves a dinner menu. One restaurant that has been in town for some time has revamped itself into a full fledged breakfast, lunch and dinner joint, Chester's.
When I moved to Painesville a year ago, Chester's was a dangerous, rundown mom and pop. However, whether through change of owership or invigerated pride, someone has managed to transform the place into a very nice restraurant.
I'm more than a bit late getting to this review so it has been a month or two since my visit to Chester's. Initially I was impressed to see they had installed video cameras outside in the parking lot as well as instituted valet parking for the safety of the guests. Since my visit I have heard that they added a new parking lot to the mix. An investment that was much needed considering its previous condition.
The inside of Chester's had been completely redone and while some of the seating is a bit cramped, it looks beautiful. A lot of money was invested in the overhaul and it shows. One of my favorite additions are the numerous flat-screen televisions located throughout. They can make that unbearable dinner conversation go by so much easier.
Chester's menu offers standard American fare from meatloaf and mashed potatoes to steaks, seafood, sandwiche, salads and burgers. Its not too fancy, but its definately not diner food either. Prices were very reasonable compared to portion sizes and quality. I ordered a burger topped with mushrooms and cheese along with a side of french fries. The total for the entire plate was only $6 or $7. Although the service was very slow without any obvious reason, when the food finally arrived it was hot and delicious. It was a very good and I will definately be going back. Next time though, I will be a bit more adventurous with my entree selection.
They put a lot of money into Chester's, so if you are ever out in Painesville be sure to stop by and give them a try.
