Being a busy guy I’m always looking for a quick and delicious way to get some food in me. I like the instant Asian rice and noodle products offered by many manufactures, the most popular of which are Ramen noodles. Today, while at the drug store I came across the Thai Kitchens – Mushroom Rice Noodle Bowl and I thought I would give it a try. The product was very easy to make. First you open the package and peel back the top of the bowl exposing the noodles and sauce packets. You simply take out the little packets, open them and pour them over the noodles. There were three different packets inside the bowl: a packet of oil, a seasoning packet and surprisingly a packet of dried mushrooms. After dumping them into the bowl I covered the noodles with water. After 3 minutes in the microwave oven I had a hot delicious bowl of mushroom rice noodles. The noodles themselves didn’t have much flavor and they were a little bit undercooked, but still edible. The broth created by the sauce packets was outstanding. Much spicier than I would have expected, but I like heat so I was ok with that. The pieces of mushroom had been rehydrated by the water and were now soft and chewy. They were an excellent compliment to the rest of the ingredients. Once most of the noodles and broth were gone it became almost too salty to even eat. Eventually, with a few spoonfuls left I quit. It was far too salty and it was actually gritty from something that was in the seasoning. Not very pleasant. Overall it was pretty good, maybe I should have mixed it better, but I really don’t think that would have helped with the saltiness. It’s not Thai takeout but it was very good for a boxed instant meal.
